Norfork s Elementary school prepares to roll out new literacy program
Norfork High School Principal Bobby Hussle used to say “a Norfork kid can” when speaking about the students in the school district before his death in January.
And while the proud Panther may no longer be stalking the halls, teachers at Arrie Goforth Elementary were hard at work Wednesday ensuring the next generation of Norfork children receive the opportunity to live up to the legendary Panther’s words.
Jennie Riley, dyslexia coordinator for Arrie Goforth Elementary, and eight other teachers attended a virtual course Wednesday about the new streamlined reading curriculum.
A FOUR week long health festival is set to take place across four different locations in Millom and Haverigg. Week one of The Choice is Yours Festival will take place between May 31-June 4 at Haverigg Cricket Club, week two will see the event move to Millom Rugby Union Football Club between June 7-11, week three will head to Millom Rugby League Football Club on June 14-18 and it will end at Millom Cricket Club on June 21-26. Each day the festival will take place between 10am-3pm. There will be activities for all ages including arts and crafts, smoothie making and cooking classes. Advice stalls and workshops will be on offer from a range of organisations including West Cumbria Carers, Hope and Cope, Mind Furness and Men in Sheds.
Health and wellbeing festival to be held in Millom
A festival will be held in Millom and Haverigg to give people the chance to talk about their health and wellbeing to professionals.
The four-week Choice is Yours Festival starts on May 31 and will be held from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday at the following venues:
Week 1: Haverigg Cricket Club, Haverigg, Monday 31 May – Friday 4 June
Week 2: Millom Rugby Union Football Club, Haverigg Monday 7 June – Friday 11 June
Week 3: Millom Rugby League Football Club, Coronation Field, Devonshire Road, Millom Monday 14 June – Friday 18 June
Week 4: Millom Cricket Club, Millom, Monday 21 June – Saturday 26 June
