ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) In an effort to get the gun violence emergency on our streets under control, local and federal law enforcers are stepping up their warrant squads.
As News10NBC reported on Wednesday, over the next 60 days the “VIPER” task force will be looking to apprehend those charged with gun and violent crimes who’ve skipped bail.
Police say they have solid intel on who is responsible for the lions-share of shootings and murders happening in Rochester and they’re planning to spend the next two months laser-focused on finding them.
But, many of these suspects have parents, children, family members who aren’t the ones pulling the trigger.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) United States Attorney for the Western District of New York James P. Kennedy Jr. held a press conference in Rochester Wednesday to announce federal efforts to combat the surge of gun violence in the city.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a disaster emergency on gun violence in the state of New York Tuesday, a first-of-its-kind disaster emergency for the country. Rochester has seen 38 homicides so far this year and is on pace for a record of more than 70, Kennedy said Wednesday. In 2019, the city saw 32 homicides, up from 28 in 2017 and 2018. In 2020, that number jumped to 52, an increase of 150% over three years, Kennedy said.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) The shortage of EMTs and Paramedics is reaching a critical level. For months, News10NBC has been exposing AMR’s slowing response times in the City of Rochester and its increased reliance on mutual aid.
On Thursday, the company launched a new program it’s hoping will encourage more people to consider becoming EMTs.
AMR is looking for 16 individuals to enter an 11-week training program.
“We want to give this opportunity to folks here in Rochester, to anyone who has an interest in a healthcare career who may not have seen a path to doing that in the past,” said AMR Rochester’s Operations Manager Mark Philippy.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) $15 and 15 minutes, that’s what it takes to learn how to rip off New York State’s unemployment system.
News10NBC Investigative Reporter Jennifer Lewke has been investigating the state’s antiquated system for more than a year and she’s now discovered that it’s still pretty easy, if you know where to look, to learn how to exploit it.
“My name, my Social Security number, all of my information was used,” said Patty Carr, a local HR manager at a small manufacturing company.
