Local Black community support, survivability topic of online panel
“Institutions and Organizations That Have Supported the Survivability of the Black Community in Fayetteville, Including the University of Arkansas Campus” will be the topic of a virtual program sponsored by the Washington County Historical Society. The society’s Diverse Settlers Committee will present the online program from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 18. Participants may register through a Zoom link at https://bit.ly/2Q6Vi7b.
The panel, moderated by Dr. Calvin White, UA associate professor of history. includes Jessie B. Bryant, Henry Lee Childress, Dr. John L. Colbert, Dinah Gant, Dr. Jeffrey Murdock, Thelma Thomason and Dr. Lonnie Williams, Panelists have been selected to reflect churches, an elementary school, lodges, Greek chapters and entertainment. Marijuana DUI Bust Reminds Drivers, Impaired is Impaired!
Thursday night, Kennewick Police apprehended a driver who could have potentially caused a serious traffic issue, or harm to others.
Just before 10PM, An officer at the busy intersection of Canal and Edison who was stopped saw a vehicle meander right through their red light and continue on their way.
A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, identified as 19-year-old Jeffrey Murdock, clearly showed signs of impairment. However, the Officer found no evidence of alcohol but he strongly suspected marijuana use.
The Officer conducted a field sobriety test, and Murdock tested positive for the behaviors and reactions consistent with being high while driving. He was taken to the Benton County jail after being taken to a nearby hospital for a blood draw to test for pot use.

Jeffrey Murdock, assistant director of choral activities and assistant professor of music, won the accolade given to recognize, in the Recording Academyâs words, âeducators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools.â We caught up with Murdock to learn more about his trajectory as a teacher, the importance of representation and what heâs blasting on his car stereo right now.

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Itâs Grammy week for the 63rd annual Grammy awards. Each year, a music educator is chosen as the Music Educator Grammy Award winner, and now one Biloxi native become a winner of that prestigious award.
The winner is Dr. Jeffrey Murdock, now the Associate Director of Choral Studies and the Associate Professor of Music at the University of Arkansas.
When WLOX last spoke with Murdock, he was one of 25 semi-finalists for the coveted award. Just under 2,000 submissions were narrowed down to elementary, middle, and high school teaches as well college and university teachers across the country.
