MORRIS In about two weeks, Doreen Sudol will head to JFK airport to pick up Melody, a 1-year-old brown, black and white Malamute. Melody, along with tens of thousands of other dogs, has been rescued from the dog meat trade through a nonprofit organization called No Dogs Left Behind.
The organization rescues dogs from slaughterhouses, dog meat trucks, wet markets and traffickers in China where they’re sent to dog festivals and tortured and killed for meat.
In January, Sudol adopted her first dog through No Dogs Left Behind Lily, a 35-pound Samoyed. Last April, Sudol, who lives on a farm with her three other dogs, as well as alpacas, goats and chickens, came across the website for No Dogs Left Behind, and was immediately interested.
