Tuesday, June 29, 2021 By Seth Boyes - News Editor Supervisor Jeff Thee encouraged the public to take the issue of state-ordered business closures to the state legislature and make a difference where the difference can be made. (Photo by Seth Boyes) A proposed resolution aimed at allowing all businesses in Dickinson County to remain open regardless of whether they were deemed essential or nonessential during future emergencies did not gain approval from the county board of supervisors. Resident Barbara Clayton brought the resolution to the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors earlier this month, and the issue was tabled until this week s meeting. Her resolution claims the denial and limitation on one s business is necessarily a denial and limitation on one s property, and infringes directly upon one s pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. The resolution did not define what a business is or address businesses which are illegal under state or federal law.

Dickinson County Considers Making Masks Optional in Courthouse By charguth April 20, 2021 3:23 pm Saga Communications Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Dickinson County Supervisors had a discussion revolving around whether or not masks should still be required when inside the courthouse. The sometimes heated discussion was brought forward by local resident Barb Clayton who made it clear to the board she thinks it is time for the mandate to go. Supervisor Tim Fairchild disagreed with Clayton’s thoughts saying now may not be the time to make masks optional. Supervisor Jeff Thee added the political divide with the pandemic makes issues like mask requirements that much more difficult to deal with on a local level.

Supervisors Looking At Establishing Committee To Establish IRVM Guidelines Tue 3-16-2021 (Spirit Lake) The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors are considering a request from the county s Conservation Board to establish a committee to oversee the county s roadside vegetation management program. The committee would act in support of the program s coordinator. Supervisor Steve Clark represents the supervisors on the Conservation Board. He says action taken last year to remove a stretch of 252 nd Avenue from the program after some nearby property owners complained may affect the program s future.
