TORONTO While travel is gradually reopening in places like Europe – and already skyrocketing, relatively speaking, in the U.S. – here at home the expectation is for another made-in-Canada summer when it comes to travel plans.
In fact there’s been a lot of talk about domestic travel over the past couple of weeks, and with good reason. Rendez-vous Canada 2021, better known as RVC+ 2021, took place May 17 – 20, with Destination Canada playing virtual host to more than 1,500 delegates and helping to facilitate some 22,000 connections between buyers and suppliers.
That was followed by TIAC’s Tourism Week, on now through May 30. To launch Tourism Week in Canada, TIAC is asking all Canadians to take the 2021 Tourism Pledge to travel in their home country this year.
Walk, run or bike for Planeterra’s new Around the World Challenge

TORONTO Planeterra’s new Around the World Challenge hits all the right notes: it encourages travel lovers to join its movement to support community tourism enterprises as travel reemerges post-COVID, while celebrating the diversity and power of community tourism.
The challenge will take place over the course of 10 days, May 17 – 26. Participants will collectively ‘travel the globe’ by walking, running, or biking 40,087 km – the distance around the equator – while aiming to raise US$40,087.
Emails and social media posts each day highlight a new region. Participants can look forward to exclusive events and videos from community tourism enterprises in places like Bolivia, Rwanda and India, plus unique cuisine, facts, and culture in more than a dozen destinations.

One year, the world has been on “hold,” sadly only enriched with increased stress, mental anguish, and isolation. I am sure you may have questioned your desire to stick it out; you’ve been angry, sad, and have grieved the loss of your business. Over the last week or so, we hear everyone talking about approaching the one year anniversary of the pandemic and the pause in travel being declared, we’ve thought back on our past trips and how we spent the last few days of “normal,” if only we knew it was our last few days! But what if we looked at this anniversary differently?
