Dark money is still trying to influence Phoenix elections despite new law. Here s how Jen Fifield, Arizona Republic © The Republic Those living in District 7 have a choice in the March 9 election between two candidates: (L-R) Yassamin Ansari and Cinthia Estela. Southwest Phoenix voters got the first deceitful political mailer from Americans for Progress nearly two weeks ago, and they just keep coming. The ads, featuring Donald Trump s talking points, are seemingly attempting to trick voters in the heavily progressive district into thinking that Yassamin Ansari, a Democratic candidate for Phoenix City Council, is a Republican. Bill would put further restrictions on sex education

Saying parents need more control, a Senate panel voted late Tuesday to change sex education in Arizona schools into an opt-in only situation and outlaw any form of it outright before the fifth grade. SB 1456 also contains very specific provisions requiring governing boards, before approving any sex ed instruction, to have at least two public hearings. And the course of study would have to be available for review and comment at least 60 days before final approval. “These are common-sense improvements to what we’re all, I think, trying to achieve: putting parents back in control and making sure that they know and are, once again, fully responsible for their children’s education in every way, especially on a sensitive topic,” said Sen. Nancy Barto, R-Phoenix.
