Scissor wielding Hammond homeowner defends his family from armed robbers

Christopher Austin Jr (a.k.a Capone) Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff deputies say a homeowner used a pair of scissors to fight back against an armed robber who got inside his home. Chief Jimmy Travis says the homeowner feared for his life and two small children as one of the assailants was attacking him. “He was forced to grab a pair of shears to defend himself and his family and it resulted in one of the assailants being critically wounded and died there on the scene,” Travis said. Twenty-six-year-old Devin Mitchell of Hammond died from his injuries. Travis says Mitchell was one of five people involved in the armed robbery and home invasion. The other four have been arrested. Travis says the homeowner will not be charged.

(WVUE) - A man that was stabbed to death for allegedly breaking into a home on the outskirts of Hammond has been identified by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office. Devin Mitchell, 27, of Hammond, died as the result of being stabbed by a homeowner who told authorities that a burglary was in progress when he arrived at his residence, said TPSO Chief Jimmy Travis. The incident occurred near the intersection of Range Road and East Louisiana Ave.
