White Rock Lake fire leads to evacuation alert in Barnhartvale, Monte Creek

An online statement, issued by the City of Kamloops after 1:15 p.m., said the municipality is aware the TNRD has issued an evacuation alert for the White Rock Lake Fire that extends up to the southeast city boundary near Barnhartvale and, at this point, the fire is not a threat to Kamloops. “BC Wildfire is monitoring the fire and will notify the City if it becomes a threat. We will post updates if the situation changes,” the city’s statement read. Because of the wildfire activity in the vicinity of Westwold/Monte Lake in Electoral Area L, the TNRD has issued an Evacuation Alert effective at 1300 hrs on July 27, 2021 for the following 277 addresses:

More evacuation orders, alerts due to White Rock Lake wildfire

The BC Wildfire Service said fire behaviour increased significantly on Sunday due to elevated temperatures and increased southwest winds. The aggressive fire behaviour led to growth to the northwest in the Sawmill Lake and Jimmy Lake areas and produced a large column of smoke. The increased fire activity is expected to continue in the coming days as hot, dry and windy conditions will persist, with no precipitation anticipated in the near future.
