Mānoa Gallery s Summer of Love Brings Back Rock Icons From the 1960s

Mānoa Village Gallery owner Catherine Cook (center) A friendly gathering spot is developing in the heart of Mānoa Valley, seeking to emerge from the pandemic into the Summer of Love. Mānoa Village Gallery has opened a photo exhibit of classic rock musicians, and many of them were captured at their sold-out Hawai’i concerts. “Wouldn’t it be great to do something that goes back to the Summer of Love, to the ‘60s, but from a Hawai‘i perspective?” said filmmaker Bob Bates. Also a producer and director, Bates curated Summer of Love, 14 weeks of Peace and Art. The answer to his question, by the way, is yes.

Of All Things: The squirrels in the old oak tree

The current Readers Digest magazine has an article that mentions that about 1 .12 billion squirrels live in the United States at any given time. I’m not surprised. I think that most of them used to live in the huge oak tree in front of our house. A bunch of electric and telephone wires ran through the branches of the giant tree, and the always busy little critters could emerge on either side of the tree and run off on a wire to do whatever squirrels do. I presume that they enjoyed eating the innards of the acorns. I’m convinced that they also enjoyed dropping the empty shells on the sidewalk and the end of our driveway, especially when I was doing something down below and would get hit on the head.
