JOLIET, IL On Wednesday morning, 76-year-old Minnesota resident
Barry Whelpley appeared over a video monitor from the Will County Jail for his first court appearance in connection with the 1972 slaying of Naperville teenager Julie Hanson.
The Will County State s Attorney s Office of Jim Glasgow has charged Whelpley, who has been living in Mounds View, Minnesota, with three counts of first-degree murder.
Wednesday s court hearing was short. Will County Circuit Judge David Carlson appointed the Will County Public Defender s Office to serve as Whelpley s lawyers for now. It s possible that Whelpley will hire a private practice law firm to represent him in the coming days.

NEW LENOX, IL A Frankfort man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after he pled guilty in December to two counts of class 1 child pornography, according to a release from the Will County State s Attorney s Office.
Aaron Bettenhausen, 43, was charged by the New Lenox Police Department in July 2020 after taking upskirt videos of women at a Target in New Lenox, according to the State s Attorney s Office.
Police reviewed Bettenhausen s phone and said they found numerous upskirt videos and photos, as well as photos of children engaged in pornographic acts, according to the state s attorney s office. Officers also later found several SIM cards with child pornography at Bettenhausen s home, police said.

JOLIET, IL The Will County State s Attorney s Office of Jim Glasgow has charged a 17-year-old Joliet east-side resident two days after another teenager was fatally shot in the business parking lot for the Blue Kangaroo Laundromat in the 600 block of East Cass Street.

JOLIET, IL The Will County State s Attorney s Office of Jim Glasgow has revealed in court documents that 19-year-old Joliet murder defendant
Abraham Bibian has made a confession implicating himself in the April 4 deadly shooting of
Jwaun Latrell Jones, who was 18.
Bibian and a 26-year-old Joliet woman, Paola Diaz, both remain in the Will County Jail. Bibian and Diaz are both charged with first-degree murder and Bibian is also charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
