Prince George Free Press » Feds clamp down on length of CN trains

CN Rail has committed to step-up safety efforts on its Vancouver-Prince George line after a series of derailments on the line and elsewhere, including one Aug. 5 which resulted in deadly sodium hydroxide being spilled into the Cheakamus River. The commitment comes after discussions last week between B.C. Minister of Transportation Kevin Falcon and CN Rail vice-president for Western Canada Peter Marshall. CN Rail took over operation of BC Rail’s freight routes last year. “Certainly our overall safety record, especially in B.C., remains very strong,” CN spokesman Jim Feeny said. “We operate a safe railroad.” Feeny said CN Rail has one of the best safety records of any railway in North America. But even safe rail lines have accidents.
