KUALA LUMPUR (March 12): Muhammad Nizam Alias said in a statement today that he has yet to receive any formal notice from Prasarana Malaysia Bhd regarding his termination as its chief executive officer (CEO) and president.
In an article in MalaysiaKini citing the statement, Muhammad Nizam had also urged the chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman in recuse himself from the deliberations by Prasarana’s board concerning his case.
The Edge weekly had reported in its Dec 21, 2020 issue that Muhammad Nizam had been served a show-cause letter which indicated that he had showed signs of insubordination when the board and chairman instructed him to investigate MRCB George Kent Sdn Bhd, the joint-venture party tasked with constructing the LRT3 project.
KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 31): Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is believed to have withheld payment of more than RM700 million that is owed to 17 contractors and consulting firms for the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project.
According to a jointly signed letter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Ministry of Transport (MoT) dated Dec 20, the 17 firms said Prasarana had not paid them since July.
As of October, the contractors were owed RM700 million, and after taking into account work done in December, this amount would exceed RM1 billion
The reason Prasarana delayed the payment to contractors is not known. However, the delay in payment has pulled many contracts and their subcontractors deeper into financial problems as a result of tight cash flow.
PRASARANA Malaysia Bhd chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman is looking to make significant changes at the rail and bus transport operator some of which may raise questions about the leadership and direction of the government-owned company.
For starters, documents viewed by The Edge reveal that Tajuddin, who was appointed chairman on May 11, had sought the termination of the contractors of the transport-oriented development at the Dang Wangi light rail transit (LRT) station, with Prasarana looking to play a more prominent role in the project and eventually move its office to the new development. The project going on at the LRT station is Latitud 8, a mixed-use commercial development with a gross development value (GDV) of RM1.2 billion.
