NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â Georgia James was one of the first Meharry Medical College patients to receive the COVID-19 vaccine Saturday. Iâm just anxious to get this thing, she said.
James was one of dozens who called Meharry to get an appointment. Right now, the college is only vaccinating patients that are age 75 and above. Is that it? James asked as the healthcare worker removed the needle.
Like so many of us, James was eager to get immunity from this dangerous virus. Iâm just glad to get this in my body, she said.

Aaron Franklin and Houston chef Chris Shepherd have long been friends and admirers of one another, showing up at each other’s events and amplifying each other’s efforts to support those in the restaurant industry.
Now, the James Beard Award winners, who are arguably the most famous faces from their respective city’s restaurant scenes, are officially teaming up. Franklin and his Hot Luck partners announced this week that Southern Smoke Foundation, the non-profit organization dedicated to helping restaurant industry workers in need, will be the charitable beneficiary of the food and music festival Franklin co-founded in 2016. A portion of all sales generated by Hot Luck going forward will help fund the efforts of Shepherd’s non-profit organization.
Good Vibes Burgers and Brews, 1329 E. Broadway, opens January 9 in Pearland. The new tiki joint and burger restaurant takes over the spacer formerly occupied by the original King s Biergarten, a move that surprised and disappointed many of the loyal patrons of Hans Sitter s Bavarian bar and restaurant, as we reported here in the
Houston Press. While some Pearland residents may be slow to warm up to the new concept, owner and executive chef Eric Nelson is eager to welcome the community to his exciting venture. Nelson has previous experience working for the Ritz Carlton hotel group, Valencia Hotel Group, The RK Group and most recently as executive chef and managing partner at Number 13 in Galveston.
