A natural gas line was broken in Fort Dodge late Monday morning, but no evacuations were necessary. The incident was reported at 11:27 a.m. in the 400 block of North 18th Street. Fire Department Lt. Jon Schreck said an excavation crew hit what appeared to be a 2-inch diameter gas distribution line. He said firefighters using metering equipment detected some gas near the hole in the ground.
