Controversial Park Project Moves Forward

By Robert Kennedy Mar 11, 2021 3:41 AM FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Wednesday night gave the Fond du Lac City Council a last chance on deciding the future of a popular park. The council agreed to develop Lakeside Park back in September. But, with continued opposition, and a last chance to end the agreement, the council decided tonight to continue moving forward. It comes on the eve of the 120-day deadline to look over a feasibility report of the plans. Joe Moore, Fond du Lac’s City Manager said, “it’s been determined the projects are feasible on Lakeside Park.” Lakeside Forward will pay for part of the project. This is what its members hoped for.

Fond du Lac City Council: Friends of Lakeside Park group will continue efforts

FOND DU LAC - Wednesday night s City Council meeting will determine whether a proposed multipurpose building will be built in Lakeside Park, but many residents still feel that committing to the project would be unwise, considering many yet unanswered questions. Thursday marks the 120th day since the presentation of the project s feasibility study  and the deadline to evaluate the findings of the study and, if their goals no longer align, terminate the development agreement with donor group Lakeside Forward. Therefore, if the council wants to back out of the agreement, that action must be done at Wednesday s meeting. The plan before the feasibility study included a multipurpose building with a restaurant and meeting rooms on the lighthouse peninsula and an amphitheater that could be converted into an ice rink on Oven Island.
