OAKLAND, Calif. - California will likely run into major vaccination problems next week after a large batch of Johnson & Johnson s COVID-19 vaccine failed quality standards.
Only 785,000 J&J doses will be allocated to states throughout the country next week. That s a drastic drop from the 4.95 million doses allocated this week.
According to CDC data, California is the main recipient of the J&J vaccine.

The mass COVID-19 vaccination site at the Oakland Coliseum is not going anywhere.
After mounting pressure from East Bay officials and Monday s nudge from Vice President Kamala Harris, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday the site will remain open even after FEMA wraps up its formal mission on Sunday. Newsom s office said the site will remain open for the next four weeks. The men and women who have been administering shots since February will remain on site, as well as the equipment used to keep the site running.

DeSaulnier’s model will allow local communities to join with workers, industry, environmental leaders, mayors, and other local elected officials to proactively plan for the transition away from the petroleum industry and support worker transition and training.
Sutter Patients Wait, Scramble for Second Doses After Thousands of Appointments Canceled
Sutter Health is canceling second-dose vaccine appointments through March 9 due to a lack of supply.
About 40,000 patients with second-dose appointments between March 3 and March 9 are in the process of being rescheduled in order of the dates they were originally slated to come in. Another 50,000 appointments starting March 10 are in danger of being canceled as well.
“This is an extremely unfortunate situation for our patients, and one that is avoidable if we can get additional vaccine supply,” said Angeline Sheets, director of media relations for the company, which has requested additional allocations from the state.
