John Sykes Foundation to give charities share of £50,000 in Reading

Stock image A SHARE of £50,000 will be available for local charities and community groups thanks to the John Sykes Foundation. The John Sykes Foundation is a UK registered charity which has been established to improve the lives and well-being of individuals and communities within the town of Reading where there is an element of disadvantage. A spokesperson said: The awful Covid-19 pandemic, despite affecting many people directly, has also impacted others indirectly through charities not only finding it far more difficult to fundraise in orthodox ways, but also to hold events, interact, and provide their usual support to individuals, families, and groups, without having face-to-face communication, or even being able to hold one’s hand.

Duchess of Kent Hospice gifted books by John Sykes Foundation

A HOSPICE is now even better equipped to help parents to support their children when faced with a terminal diagnosis within the family. The Duchess of Kent Hospice, in Reading, has welcomed a kind donation of a new resource library of books to help support children. The gift came from the John Sykes Foundation as part of a new project to help families locally. Lucy Sansom, a social worker for the Hospice contacted the Foundation after a previous application back in December 2019 had been granted for a family she had assisted. She said: In my role I often come into contact with families where a parent has received the devastating news that they have a terminal illness.
