Not for John Fernicola.
Fernicola is the motel owner from Point Pleasant Beach who’s been in the news lately because the borough wants to take his property through eminent domain and turn the site into a parking lot.
The motel has sparked numerous calls to the police. Members of the Borough Council are arguing that acquiring the site through eminent domain would rid the town of a perennial trouble spot.

The owner of a Point Pleasant Beach motel is fighting plans by the borough to acquire his property through eminent domain and turn it into a parking lot.
Borough Council plans to introduce an ordinance Tuesday night to negotiate acquisition of the Amethyst Beach Motel, located a few blocks from the community’s beach and boardwalk. The 1 1/2-acre property sits at the corner of Arnold and Baltimore avenues next to a large municipal parking lot.
It includes the 40-room motel which has been in the Fernicola family since 1962 and has been a motel since 1948 as well as a separate house that the family rents out and motel parking.
