After just over a year in quarantine, with news cycles consumed by a global pandemic and nationwide protests for racial justice, more than a few people yelled “Finish him!” to bid farewell to 2020. Now, as we enter spring 2021 and return to some semblance of normalcy, “Mortal Kombat” is indeed one of the first major movies fans can see in theaters again (though it will be streaming on HBO Max as well).

Mortal Kombat is known for many things by video game fans, from its awesome and powerful characters to its sweet battle settings. Of course, what probably stands out the most to the
MK faithful are the heavily stylized (and violent) fighting moves, particularly the Fatalities. These are, of course, the brutal finishing moves performed by a combatant to end a fight. While 1995âs
Mortal Kombat held back somewhat when it came to delivering game-accurate Fatalities, the upcoming reboot will do no such thing. With this, the director has opened up about why theyâre so important to the film and the franchise as a whole.

Now, before I get into the characters who will definitely be in this film, as seen in the trailer, I just want to pour a 40 ounce (of blood) for all my favorite kombatants who donât look like theyâll be making an appearance, unless, of course, theyâre a secret. So, in no particular order: Johnny Cage, Kitana (How?), Ermac, Nightwolf, Cyrax, Sektor, and Baraka donât look to be making an appearance in this movie. But Kabal (Wow!) and Nitara (Seriously?), will apparently be in this film, even though theyâre not present in the trailer. But enough sad talk, let
