The
MORTAL KOMBATvideogame franchise has a plethora of characters and backstories to dive into so I would imagine that when adapting the game for the screen, it would be hard to decide who should make the cut. The new film features many fan-favorite fighters from the game and with plans for multiple sequels, more characters are bound to be revealed and explored. One character that was rumored to be in the new
Mortal Kombat was Rain but writer Greg Russo is revealing while he was in the initial script that he received, he ultimately decided not to include him.
Shakespeare eat your heart out. LOL.
Look, it s not high art, but what it does, it does quite well. Mortal Kombat is a film that for a fan like me, is a satisfying, albeit silly, and over the top cinematic journey. No doubt, it might not be everyone s cup of tea (my wife, for instance, won t touch this flick with a 10-foot pole and gave a bit of an eye roll when I said I was going to watch it.) But, for those that like this type of movie, it delivers the goods. But, if this movie is nominated for best picture next year at the Oscars something is very, very wrong.
My friend really wanted to see
Mortal Kombat on opening day, one of the many new movie releases out now in movie theaters. I agreed since, ya know, I write about movies for a living.
Here’s the honest truth: I barely know
anything about
Mortal Kombat. I have played the video game over the years––most recently in a bar filled with vintage arcade games in Philly––but I haven’t seen the 1995
Mortal Kombat movie or the 1997
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. My friend said the 90s movies have horrible acting and less sophisticated effects, but fantastic fight scenes. I’ll take his word for it.
