Life School Coaches come together to help one of their families

Submitted by Chelsea Groomer After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year, Life School parent Lanita Smith feared she would never see her son play football in-person again. But, in the spirit of collaboration, three Life School coaches worked together to make her wish come true by providing special seating accommodations on the field for the Smith family. Lanita told how it was a moment they d never forget. “I was so excited, I couldn’t believe it,” she teared up. Since July, Lanita’s mobility deteriorated as the autoimmune disease changed her life drastically. Having turned 40, she described her condition as a “thorn in her side,” restricting her mobility to using a walker and a stride of a “95-year old woman.”

Two Belize City men plead guilty to being members of gangs

Justin Burns 21-year-old Kyle Latchman, a resident of George Street, and 19-year-old Justin Burns of Los Lagos were arraigned in court on separate charges of being members of two separate gangs. Latchman was the first to be arraigned before Magistrate Stephanie Gillett. It is alleged that he is a member of the George Street Gang while Burns is alleged to be a member of the Banak Street Gang. Both groups are known to engage in the conducting of serious crimes. Both Latchman and Burns pleaded guilty and were each fined $3,000 to be paid by January 15, 2021 for Latchman and January 30, 2021 for Burns. If they fail to pay these fines, they will spend three years in prison.
