Geddes, N.Y. It was the kind of recruitment email Carrie Rewakowski typically ignores.
It was early January, and Rewakowski, a registered nurse for 23 years, was in a sad place. Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths were mounting. She wanted to help.
She opened that email from a health care temp agency Jan. 8. Six days later, she was seated at one of 20 tables at the New York State Fairgrounds, ready to vaccinate people against Covid-19.

Remote learning could look much different in the fall: Remote learning will likely return to schools in the fall, but it could look very different, school superintendents and experts say. Hybrid learning blending in-person with remote days- from the pandemic shutdown will almost definitely be gone, but schools are preparing for some kind of remote learning. The options under consideration generally remove the need for a teacher to juggle in-person students and those watching from home.

As one of the top teams in the nation, Syracuse women’s lacrosse usually has one thing in mind on game days: winning. During warmups and the game, the Orange are laser-focused on the task at hand, and very few things can break that concentration.
Maddy Hertweck is the exception, one of those few people who
can break the Syracuse lacrosse players out of the zone. When Maddy settled into her spot among other fans in the Dome before a Thursday night game against Boston College, she stopped Asa Goldstock dead in her tracks. The fifth-year goalie jumped up and down, and then picked up a cardboard cutout that had been on the sidelines all season and shook it in the air, pointing and waving to Maddy.
City Hall wants to keep Skyline under its thumb for at least a year

Syracuse, N.Y. City officials hope to keep the owners of the Skyline Apartments complex under a microscope for at least another year, saying owner Green National has not demonstrated it can provide safe, clean housing there weeks after a 93-year-old woman was found murdered.
Security and maintenance issues persist at the 365-unit Skyline complex, tenants and neighbors said in a four-hour nuisance abatement hearing Monday. That’s despite added police patrols, the recent hiring of a 24-hour security company and increased efforts by Skyline staff to keep common areas clean.
