Samuel Delwyn Thomas, 30, was arrested on aggravated assault as the police continue to look into the possibility of a hate crime, the police said, according to Fox 5. Max Trading owner Chong Hu Lu was punched in the face twice on May 4 after he refused to remove jewelry from the case due to store policy. ADVERTISEMENT Thomas allegedly yelled “F k you, Chinese people, I hate you” while punching the store owner twice and sending him to the hospital for over a dozen stitches.

The attacker, a black man, became upset and started punching him while cursing, saying he hated Chinese people. The victim, Chong Hu Lu, owner of Max Trading, told News 4 DC that he needed 14 stitches. The attacker, a non-white supremacist yelled, “F you Chinese people. I hate you.” If we are going to stop Asian hate, we probably should start by honestly identifying the problem. Black men are beating Chinese people. That is the problem. The attacker ran away and has not been arrested.

DC police investigating attack of Asian business owner as hate crime

An Asian business owner was assaulted inside his store in Northeast D.C. earlier this week in an attack police are investigating as a possible hate crime. The attack happened at Max Trading, a wholesale jewelry and gift shop on 4th Street near Union Market. Chong Hu Lu, the owner, told police a man came inside the store a little after 1:45 p.m. Tuesday and asked if he could open a package to look at the merchandise. When Lu told the man he couldn’t open the package, the man began punching him in the face, cutting his lip, according to a police report.
