NEWARK Newark City Council heard a variety of concerns from residents at Monday night s meeting, including noise from the Newark Station venue, crime in downtown, lack of police patrols, possible evictions and access to American Rescue Plan funds.
Newark Station, the multi-use development venue opening in phases at 325 West Main St., has hosted concerts and outside volleyball leagues since it first opened May 28. It has four lighted sand volleyball courts, an outdoor taco bar and live music.
The former industrial site of White-Westinghouse, located between Raccoon Creek and 11th Street, will eventually become home to a 140,000-square foot development consisting of a coffee shop, lounge, 22 loft apartments, rooftop bar, modern-day trading post featuring artisans and entrepreneurs, office space, Italian restaurant and possibly a city park.

NEWARK – The grand opening of The Yard at Newark Station, a redevelopment at 325 West Main St. on the former White-Westinghouse property, will be Friday night, when the remainder of the project will be announced.
The Yard, an outdoor events center, includes four lighted sand volleyball courts, a food truck with full commercial kitchen, live music, full bar, taco service, cornhole, horseshoes and a fire pit in the first phase a four-phase, mixed-use development.
Todd Alexander, president of property owner A4 Ragtime Band Development, and Seth Stout, co-founder and director of operations, will announce plans for the three additional phases at the grand-opening event.

Christmas Eve service
First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will host a Christmas Eve Parking Lot Service at 6 p.m., Dec. 24. The service will include a meditation from the Rev. Seth Stout, singing, and the lighting of battery-operated candles. All are welcome. Park in the lot at 1127 Beatty Ave., and please plan to remain in your vehicles for the duration of the service.

Lakeland Parish (Freeport, Mount Carmel & West Chester) United Methodist Church is hosting a Candlelight Christmas Eve Service at 7 p.m., Dec. 24, in the parking lot of the Freeport Press - by the town square.
