NEWARK Newark City Council heard a variety of concerns from residents at Monday night s meeting, including noise from the Newark Station venue, crime in downtown, lack of police patrols, possible evictions and access to American Rescue Plan funds.
Newark Station, the multi-use development venue opening in phases at 325 West Main St., has hosted concerts and outside volleyball leagues since it first opened May 28. It has four lighted sand volleyball courts, an outdoor taco bar and live music.
The former industrial site of White-Westinghouse, located between Raccoon Creek and 11th Street, will eventually become home to a 140,000-square foot development consisting of a coffee shop, lounge, 22 loft apartments, rooftop bar, modern-day trading post featuring artisans and entrepreneurs, office space, Italian restaurant and possibly a city park.
