Rape alleged over 2019 incident SEVIERVILLE — A Sharps Chapel man has been charged with rape over an alleged 2019 incident involving a minor in Sevier County. Sixty-two-year-old Charles Stuart Cavanaugh was being held in the Sevier County Jail Wednesday in lieu of $100,000 bond. Cavanaugh was charged through a sealed presentment, which does not offer additional details on the allegations. Glades Road to be reduced to one lane after 8 a.m. Thursday GATLINBURG —The 600 block of Glades Road will be reduced to one lane after 8 a.m. on Thursday. Glades Road will be reduced to one lane with traffic control in this area as crews perform work in the roadway. The work is expected to start at approximately 8 a.m. and is expected to be complete by the end of the day. The City urges motorists to exercise caution when traveling through the construction zone to protect the safety of the workers.

Successful applications must provide documentation demonstrating that the property tells an important story that has meaning for all Sevierville residents. A Sevierville significant property or area may be the location of an event that had a significant impact on Sevierville history; be the property most strongly associated with a significant Sevierville figure in Sevier County and or Tennessee history; provide an outstanding illustration of a broad theme or trend in Sevierville’s history; be an outstanding example of an architectural style or significant development in engineering; be part of a collective group of properties that form a historic district; or be a property that can provide nationally significant archeological information

Knoxville Opera will perform for homeless KNOXVILLE — On Friday, July 16, at the invitation of Volunteer Ministry Center, Knoxville Opera will be performing a concert of Broadway, Disney, Opera, and songs for people gathered under I-40 at North Broadway. The concert will feature soprano Jacqueline Brecheen and mezzosoprano Aubrey Odle, accompanied by Knoxville Opera Artistic Director Brian Salesky. Every year Knoxville Opera provides Community Engagement Concerts like these at venues such as Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA programs, Cancer Support Community, and churches. Knoxville Opera will return to the I-40/Broadway location on Aug. 21 to perform at the Knox County Department of Health’s Block Party.

Golf tournament to benefit Area 33 Special Olympics SEVIERVILLE — The Sevier County Gifted Olympians Lifelong Friends League is hosting its annual golf tournament at Sevierville Golf Club. The event was rescheduled from March 31 to Wednesday, April 14. Registration for the two-man scramble is $190 per team. Sevierville BMA schedules budget workshop SEVIERVILLE — The Sevierville Board of Mayor and Aldermen has scheduled a workshop on Monday, April 12. The workshop will begin at 3 p.m. at the Sevierville Civic Center, 130 Gary Wade Boulevard. The purpose of this meeting will be for pre-budget discussion and other items as needed.
