Olivia Grant crowned Miss York 2021 | The Northern Echo

Olivia Grant, 20, is a student at the University of York. Olivia said she is “beyond excited,” to have been crowned Miss York this year, giving her the opportunity to represent her hometown at the prestigious Miss Great Britain grand final later in the year. The finals are set to be held in September. However, depending on the Covid regulations at the time, this date may be subject to change. Olivia is sponsored by Easingwold-based hairdressers ‘Hair Flair’ and has previously competed in three national beauty pageants, though she said Miss Great Britain has always been her “dream,” pageant to compete in.

Virus claims one of regions best known bodybuilders

Brian House and inset competing with his son Paul ONE of the region s best known bodybuilding legends – who at one time shared a stage with Arnold Schwarzenegger – has died from Covid-19. Tributes have been paid to Brian House, 82, who his family said was fit and healthy and still working out until the virus hit him. Mr House, from Dringhouses, York, was renowned in the bodybuilding world, running a gym in the city for many years and operating as a North-East judge and show promoter for the National Amateur Body Builders Association. He competed in the Mr Universe competition in the 1960s, clinching fourth place the same year ‘Arnie’, who competed at a different weight ,carried off the title and set off on the path to movie stardom. Mr House said Schwarzenegger was a nice guy and you could see he would go far.

Miss York wants us all to believe and boost our city

REIGNING Miss York Elizabeth Martin has joined forces with another Miss England contestant to raise awareness of charities and community projects that have been sidelined in 2020. ‘Believe’ is a new initiative spearheaded by the two Miss England contestants who bonded over a shared love of their communities. In a move labelled ‘12 For Change’, reigning Miss York and Miss England 2021finalist Elizabeth and current Miss All African Colours finalist Aminata Sow are pledging 12 months of fundraising and campaigning for issues close to their hearts. They say the initiative, in Yorkshire and Manchester, will tackle 12 projects, from homelessness to healthy eating, raising awareness and funds for small charities and community groups in the process.
