Ethica Wines CEO Francesco Ganz launches “Carpe Vinum,” the first-ever Italian wine tourism TV series in Chinese, created especially for the Chinese market.
“Until ‘Carpe Vinum’ began streaming,” notes Ganz, “every show created for the Chinese market was shot using English as the primary language. We thought to ourselves: Why not give Chinese wine lovers a show that spoke to them directly?”
In March 2021, Ethica Wines and its partners launched, “Carpe Vinum,” the first-ever Italian wine education series to be filmed in Chinese. Presented by Chinese Master of Wine Fongyee Walker, the show marks a break from convention as it strives to make its content approachable and user-friendly for a Chinese-language audience. Throughout each of the episodes, the show’s host strives instead to make the experience fun, making it a new and inviting experience for those who love wine but still feel intimidated by the wine world’s perceived snobbery. The red grape Grenache is a mainstay of the Mediterranean wine world from southern France and Spain, where it is known as Garnacha, to the Italian island of Sardinia, where it’s called Cannonau.
What unifies these areas is a climate that is hot and dry conditions in which the variety thrives. A great introduction from Sardinia is Sella & Mosca’s 2017 Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva.
Sella & Mosca, with its 1,200 acres of vineyards, is the largest wine estate in Sardinia, the second largest in Italy, and one of the biggest in Europe. Although it grows other varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermentino, and Sauvignon Blanc, it is best known for its Cannonau.
