Georgia man gets probation, big fine for posing as Coloradan to get hunting licenses

Douglas Crookston, 41, was charged with 42 wildlife violations, including illegally possessing six big game animals. In April, he pleaded guilty to 10 counts of making a false statement while purchasing a hunting license, three counts of hunting without a valid license and two counts of illegal possession. An Adams County judge sentenced Crookston to two years of supervised probation and a court-ordered suspension of all hunting, fishing and trapping activities. “Colorado residents are entitled to certain privileges that out-of-state residents are not. This comes in the form of license prices, license draw odds and license allocations,” said wildlife officer Scott Murdoch. In addition to the $41,700 in fines and court costs, Crookston was also ordered to make a $500 donation to Colorado s Operation Game Thief and to forfeit all wildlife seized in the investigation to the agency.

Author: Reagan Roy Updated: 3:25 PM CDT May 14, 2021 VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas  are seeking information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this killing and dumping alligators in Van Zandt County. Officials say the alligators were dumped sometime between May 6-7 and left for waste at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 857 and Van Zandt County Road 1507, in Grand Saline near the Van Zandt and Smith County line.   Texas Game Wardens say the alligators were shot in the head. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the responsible party.

Outdoornews April 22, 2021 From the Game Commission Allegheny County Game Warden Zeb Campbell reports a number of nuisance turkeys in the area. Some are even attacking cars and chasing people. An investigation revealed the turkeys are being fed by someone in the same neighborhood.     Allegheny County Game Warden Zeb Campbell reports more ATV and dirt-bike activity on properties controlled by the Game Commission. These machines cause damage to property that upsets the property owners. Riding on these properties without landowner permission is a violation of the law.  Armstrong County Game Warden Christopher Bence reports charges have been filed against an individual for shooting protected songbirds within several safety zones.

Mack Mesa Reservoir being drained

Mack Mesa Reservoir will soon be dry. The Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced Monday that the reservoir located inside Highline Lake State Park will be drained in response to the discovery of northern pike in the reservoir. CPW has already start work to drain Mack Mesa it will continue for several weeks. The lake will be slowly drained to protect infrastructure and to effectively remove other species of fish for transfer to Highline Lake. Highline Lake will not be impacted by the project and will remain open to boaters, anglers, and other recreationists, according to a CPW news release. “Northern pike are a voracious predator that cannot be managed in Mack Mesa,” said Ben Felt, CPW’s aquatic biologist for the Grand Junction area. “Pike will quickly decimate other fish in the lake, including trout, black crappie, largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish reared and stocked through CPW’s hatchery system.”
