Retail surges as customers return to shopping in Palm Beach

Susan Salisbury Special to the Daily News An influx of visitors and new residents seeking a less locked-down and more outdoor-friendly environment helped Palm Beach merchants experience a decent season despite the pandemic. Longtime residents too, were eager to dine out and shop, refreshing their wardrobes. The summer outlook is positive as the trend continues. “It has been amazing. This was our best March in the last 20 years. There is a lot of pent-up demand,” said Michael Maus, owner of Maus & Hoffman, a family-owned menswear store on Worth Avenue for more than 60 years. “The season was definitely better than expected. From our perspective we planned for some very dire things. We are happy where we are as a business. I think a lot of businesses would say the same thing. We are lucky to be here in South Florida and not in another market that is more locked down,” said Maus, who also is a board member of the Worth Avenue Association.
