Through House Resolution 1606, Biazon said in light of the renewed vigor in relations between the Philippines and the US governments, now may be the opportune time for policymakers to discuss possible options for the country regarding VFA. Biazon said the volatile situation in the West Philippine Sea as well as the need for the Philippine military to modernize and improve its systems to conduct humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations compel [the Philippines] to seek and maintain alliances with other countries.

Dela Rosa, chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, said there is nothing wrong with heeding the request of the Executive department to give way to the probe being conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
“Yes, (we will investigate) in due time. There is nothing wrong with giving in to the request of a co equal branch of government, particularly the Malacañang, to enable our resource persons to concentrate on the investigation being conducted by the NBI,” Dela Rosa said in a statement.
