Cedric Russell Named Sun Belt & LSWA Player of the Week

Louisiana guard Cedric Russell s impact was undeniable.
The senior from Alexandria averaged 22.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in the two victories, hitting 9 three-pointers, including a season-high 6 in Saturday s 74-73 win.
For his efforts, Russell was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week and LSWA (Louisiana Sports Writers Association) Player of the week on Monday. Both honors are well deserved.
University of Louisiana senior guard Cedric Russell helped lead the Ragin’ Cajuns to a pair of one-possession victories last weekend. For his stellar play, Russell has been named the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Russell averaged 22.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in last weekend’s two-game series at Texas State, beginning on Friday with a 21-point performance with three 3-pointers in a 62-60 victory.
Russell wrapped up the week with his seventh 20-point game of the season, as he scored 24 points with a season-high six three-pointers in a 74-73 thriller on Saturday. Russell went 9-for-17 from the floor and 6-for-9 from long range in Saturday’s finale.

The Louisiana men’s basketball team completed another weekend series sweep on Saturday.
The Ragin’ Cajuns defeated the Texas State Bobcats 74-73 to improve to 13-4 on the season and 7-3 in Sun Belt Conference play.
Louisiana earned their first weekend series sweep last week against Arkansas State.
How It Happened:
Louisiana jumped out to a 7-point lead early in the first half. They led 17-10 with 12:23 left in the first.
Texas State responded with an 18-8 run to take a 28-25 lead with 5:48 remaining in the half.
Bobcats’ Mason Harrell made a jumper to give his team a four-point lead with 4:36 remaining.
