(1/23/21) – Trailing by 20 with 15:04 to play, the Arkansas State men’s basketball team trimmed the deficit to two, but Louisiana came away with a 77-74 victory over the Red Wolves Saturday at the Cajundome. Norchad Omier once again led A-State (5-8, 2-4 Sun Belt) with a double-double effort of 15 points and 13 rebounds, his 10th-straight outing with 10 or more rebounds. Christian Willis scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half and Malcolm Farrington added 10 points off the bench. Marquis Eaton had 10 points and a game-high seven assists while Tim Holland had eight points and four rebounds in his first start. Cedric Russell and Jacobi Gordon led Louisiana (11-4, 5-3 Sun Belt) with 14 points each.

Louisiana Pulls Off the Sweep of Arkansas State The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns defeated the Arkansas St Red Wolves 77 to 74. The Cajuns overcame everything from a malfunctioning shot clock to a second-half run by the Red Wolves; however, that run wasn t enough to defeat the Cajuns. Louisiana outscored the Red Wolves 49 to 21 in the first half, and even though they lost the second half 45 to 36 they still shot 68.8% from three for the game. The high point man for the Cajuns tonight was guard Cedric Russell with 14 points and 6 rebounds. The Cajuns also received some major help from off the bench from the likes of Jacobi Gordon and Ty Harper. Gordon scored 14 points and Harper scored 11 points for the Cajuns. Big man Theo Akwuba also contributed 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The Ragin’ Cajuns have not swept an opponent this season, but they are on track with another conference win. Louisiana is 10-4 overall for the season and 4-3 in Sun Belt Conference play behind big nights from Cedric Russell and Theo Awkuba. How It Happened: Ragin’ Cajun forward Theo Akwuba opened the scoring with a hook shot jumper. The Red Wolves led Louisiana 8-6 going into the first media timeout with 15:01 left in the first half.

LAFAYETTE, La. Jacobi Gordon came off the bench to score 14 points to lead Louisiana-Lafayette to a 77-74 win over Arkansas State on Saturday. Cedric Russell had 14 points and six rebounds for Louisiana-Lafayette (11-4, 5-3 Sun Belt Conference). Theo Akwuba added 13 points and nine rebounds. Mylik Wilson had 12 points. Ty Harper, who made 1 of 2 free throws with three seconds left, had 11 points. Arkansas State did not get off a game-tying attempt. Norchad Omier had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Red Wolves (5-8, 2-4). Christian Willis added 15 points. Malcolm Farrington and Marquis Eaton had 10 points. The Ragin’ Cajuns improve to 2-0 against the Red Wolves this season. Louisiana-Lafayette defeated Arkansas State 81-68 last Friday.
