Vertical Slam Race to take place September 11th

Participants on the Vertical Slam Ultimate Challenge course. (Laurie Cardinal) TAYLOR, B.C. – The Vertical Slam directors met this past weekend to discuss options for the race this year, deciding to postpone the event until September. The directors decided a live in-person race in June, like originally planned, is not currently feasible. The group announced the Vertical Slam Beatton River Valley event would be postponed until they can do a live event, which has been tentatively set for September 11th, 2021, with a fee of $25. The Beatton River Valley race is a new 21-kilometre course with different terrain and a lot more backcountry. In past years, the event was held at the Big Bam Ski Hill in the Taylor area.

Vertical Slam gets families outdoors, donates gift cards to SD60 food programs

Participants on the Vertical Slam Ultimate Challenge course. (Laurie Cardinal) FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. –  Registration for the 6th annual Vertical Slam Ultimate Challenge is officially open and hopes to raise even more funds for SD60 food programs this time. Last year, the annual trail run went virtual. Plans were in place to do a live event at Beatton Park, but restrictions forced organizers to pivot. According to volunteer Laurie Cardinal, the participants walked, cycled, climbed, or whatever they could to get active, have some fun, and raise money for community school food programs. “It was a really cool program where people had a week to do the run with their bubble, or in their safe scenarios. People ran in town, we had people bike, swim, to achieve a time.”
