Wildfire smoke continues to spread into Peace region

FireSmoke Canada map between July 15th to 17th. There are currently 65 active fires in the Prince George Fire Centre, seven being caused in the last two days. Within the District of Tumbler Ridge boundary, the Tentfire Creek fire is covering 1,000. The BC Wildfire Service says a burn plan has been developed for the fire, around 20 kilometres away from the district. “Guards are constructed, but the weather will not allow prescribed burn at this time, so crews are re-setting before returning early in the week,” said a BC Wildfire Service statement at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Crews remain on scene with firefighters and heavy equipment to maintain and establish new guards as required. Kinuseo Falls Road remains closed in both directions.

Three wildfires of note burning in Prince George fire centre, update on 3 previous wildfires of note The Cutoff Creek fire (G41269) was discovered July 2 and is located approximately 60 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof. This fire is currently burning at approximately 6,064 hectares and was caused by lightning. The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako issued an evacuation alert on July 5 at 2 pm. The alert covers approximately 60 km south along Kenney Dam Road to Knewstubb Lake and 6 km west of Kluskus Forest Service Road along the Natalkuz 500 Road to Knewstubb Lake. To stay up to date, visit rdbn.bc.ca. There are currently 53 firefighters, two helicopters and 11 pieces of heavy equipment fighting this fire.
