JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Businesspeople in eastern Nangarhar province say lack of electricity and security and continued land grab remain key obstacles to investments in the Sheikh Misri industrial town
The Sheikh Misri industrial town was established during the Taliban regime. Currently, dozens of factories are operating there, providing job opportunities for around 2,000 people.
The town has capacity for 635 factories which will provide employment to thousands of people if security, electricity and other facilities for the town maintained.

Afghanistanʹs drug economy provides a regular income to rural communities in this extremely unstable country. With eighty-five percent of villages in the countryʹs south cultivating opium poppies, yield fluctuations have more to do with the weather than government policy. By Janet Kursawe
For over 25 years, Afghanistan has been the world’s main cultivation area of opium poppies and the primary supplier of opium, heroin, morphine and other opiates. In the past year, the country’s total cultivation area for opium poppies grew by 63 % to 328,000 hectares, thereby achieving a new record. The southern provinces of Kandahar, Uruzgan and Helmand are the centres of production.

KABUL (Pajhwok): A table of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) shows that of 748 mining areas in different parts of Afghanistan, about 283 are controlled by the Taliban, 281 by government and the remaining by power full individuals.
The ministry collected information on nationwide mining sites. A source in MoMP provided Pajhwok Afghan News the table based on that information. He said this information was collected between 2018 and 2020.
The information contains the number of mineral areas, locations of mines, who control them and types of minerals. The table also identities the miners, but Pajhwok does not mention them for lack of clarity.
