Rare Flathead Treasure Trove and a Caddy-Powered '32 Stashed in Arkansas

Rare Flathead Treasure Trove and a Caddy-Powered ’32 Stashed in Arkansas Connell R. Miller © Hot Rod Network Staff 001-013-whitehead-1932-ford-three-window-sb-1940-fords-manifolds-garage During a visit several years ago to Frank Pratt, an ex-West Coast dedicated car guy living in the Ozark Mountain community of Bella Vista, Arkansas, I asked about a rumor I d heard about a 32 Ford three-window that was built as a hot rod in the early 1950s and was still in the owner s possession. Adding to that mystery, the garage in which the car was parked supposedly contained a large collection of Ford flathead parts. He laughed, grabbed his cell phone, and 20 minutes later we pulled up in front of a large home on a cul-de-sac that overlooked Loch Lomond, the largest of the town s lakes.

Which Manual Transmission Is Best for Your Swap Project?

Which Manual Transmission Is Best for Your Swap Project? Steven Rupp © Hot Rod Network Staff 019-which-trans-tremec-T5-TKO-Magnum-XL-TKX-buyers-guide-Bowler-LS-Swap Not all manual transmissions are created equally, so you need to know some info before choosing one for your ride. Automatic transmissions have come a long way from the non-overdrive, slow-shifting slushboxes of the past, and while we can appreciate how good they are, these days many of us still prefer a manual transmission. Why? Why do we desperately cling to what some call antiquated? For the same reason Porsche dropped manual transmissions and then brought them back for many of their higher-performance models, because manual transmissions are more fun. Yep, it s true. Automatics are great for the daily driver, or even a cruiser, but for high-performance driving, off track or on, nothing beats the feeling of rowing gears and trying to nail that perfect heel-toe downshift. With a manual transmis

Love Car Shirts? Freiburger Talks About Some of His Favorites

Love Car Shirts? Freiburger Talks About Some of His Favorites David Freiburger © Hot Rod Network Staff 001-david-freiburger-car-shirts-hot-rod-bonneville-200-mph-club Ed Iskenderian is credited with inventing the branded T-shirt, handing them out to promote Isky cams in the 1950s. I guess I should send him some thanks, or a royalty check, because I have a decent side hustle selling my own shirts and hoodies. That got me thinking about the T-shirts that impacted my life, because in the gearhead world, that s an actual thing. Related: The first shirt I coveted at an unreasonable level was a hand-me-down from my brother, a green shirt with the now-classic, then-current Suzuki S logo. I wasn t into dirt bikes, but my bro was, so therefore the shirt was cool. I wore it until it was loaded with holes and nearly transparent.

Budget Bolt-On Coilover Install for Your Classic

Budget Bolt-On Coilover Install for Your Classic Steven Rupp © Hot Rod Network Staff 001-1955-Chevy-Tri-Five-Easy-coilover-coil-over-install-kit-aldan-adjustable-shock We head over to Aldan American to see just how easy it is to upgrade a 1955 Tri-Five Chevy with billet rear shocks and a front coilover system. How your car sits, or its stance, really sets the tone for the overall look of the car. Even a stock car or truck looks a whole lot more menacing when dropped down closer to the tarmac. That said, the wrong ride height can just kill the looks of an otherwise really nice car or truck. Aside from the aesthetics of ride height, having quality shocks and springs can not only make your classic handle better, but ride better as well. Today companies like Aldan American are selling kits that make it pretty painless to improve the looks, ride, and handling of your classic Chevy, Ford, or Mopar.
