Community advocate Ernest Tiger Claybon III has announced a bid for the District 3 Montgomery City Council seat that was held by Tracy Larkin. Claybon is a retired Alabama Department of Corrections officer who served in the U.S. Army. He s on the Alabama Region V Perinatal Council advisory committee and serves on the executive committee of the Montgomery County Democratic Party. I want to use my experience to work for the people of District 3, Claybon said in a release. I want to ensure the constitutional rights of our citizens are protected. I will put the focus on the forgotten areas of District 3. I want to use my background to ensure we have a safe and vibrant community.

Larkin passed away in the first week of the new year after months of respiratory health issues. The 74-year-old was serving his fourth term on the City Council at the time of his death.

Special Election Announced for Montgomery City Council District Three

Alabama News The City of Montgomery has announced a special election for Montgomery City Council District Three. The special election will take place on March 23. City officials say anyone interested in qualifying as a candidate for the seat, an individual must have at least six month of residency in District Three prior to the election. The prospective candidate must also live in the district during their term(s) of office and not hold any other public office. The exceptions would be that of a notary public or service in the National Guard or naval or military reserve. In order to vote in the special election, voters must live in District Three for at least 30 days prior to March 23 and are authorized to vote in that district’s city-designated precinct.

Alabama News Updated: Funeral arrangements for Montgomery City Councilor Tracy Larkin have been announced. Councilor Larkin will lie in repose in the council chambers at Montgomery City Hall on Saturday, January 16, from 8:00AM to 11:00AM. A graveside service will take place at 2:00PM Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery on Highland Avenue in Montgomery. ADPH protocol for COVID-19 will be observed. Councilor Tracy Larkin passed away on January 5. Larkin grew up in Montgomery and was the youngest of five children. He attended Paterson Elementary School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Alabama State University after serving in the U.S. Army. He also studied at the University of Pittsburgh.
