The Assembly elections in north Kerala usually witness a repeat of a familiar pattern with the dominance of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) whichever coalition comes to power in the State.
But this time the pro-incumbency wave seemed to have helped the LDF win more or less the same number of seats like in the 2016 polls. By sweeping the elections, the LDF gained from the positive attitude of the voters towards the Pinarayi Vijayan government.

A mosque and Islamic school have paid their tributes to a former general secretary and head teacher. Nizamuddin Makda, died on January 13 aged 69. His wife Rashida Nizam Makda of Cambridge Close died on 20 December 2020 aged 63. Mr Makda was a long serving committee member of Noorul Islam Mosque, Audley Range one of the largest Mosques in Blackburn. He was also one of the founder members and a former head teacher of one of the first Independent Muslim schools in Lancashire. Mr Makda also represented Noorul Islam Mosque on the Lancashire Council of Mosques for some years. He was also a respected religious cleric whose advice was sought by many in the community.
