Mosque volunteers pick up 250 bags of rubbish and clear 100 streets in two hours!

The Masjide Noorul Islam on Audley Range organised the litter pick invoving more than 60 volunteers A huge clean up organised by a Blackburn mosque saw 250 bags, equating to a tonne of rubbish collected in one afternoon. The Community Litter Pick organised by the Masjide Noorul Islam on Audley Range took place on Saturday (April 17). Volunteers covered a 500m radius of the Audley and Queens Park area cleaning almost 100 streets in the process - all of this whilst fasting! All bag totals and exact collection points, as well as various fly tip locations were reported to Blackburn with Darwen Cleansing Department. With each bag weighing at least 4kg the mosque said they had collected a whole tonne of rubbish during the clean up.

Blackburn mosque pays tribute to long serving committee member

A mosque and Islamic school have paid their tributes to a former general secretary and head teacher. Nizamuddin Makda, died on January 13 aged 69. His wife Rashida Nizam Makda of Cambridge Close died on 20 December 2020 aged 63. Mr Makda was a long serving committee member of Noorul Islam Mosque, Audley Range one of the largest Mosques in Blackburn. He was also one of the founder members and a former head teacher of one of the first Independent Muslim schools in Lancashire. Mr Makda also represented Noorul Islam Mosque on the Lancashire Council of Mosques for some years. He was also a respected religious cleric whose advice was sought by many in the community.
