PORTLAND, Maine, May 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Joseph Joe Powers has been named the new managing director of Maine Venture Fund (MVF), a state-sponsored venture capital fund. The decision comes after a nationwide search prompted by the decision of the organization s first Managing Director John Burns, CFA, to semi-retire after 20 years at the organization s helm.
Powers joined Maine Venture Fund in 2019, most recently serving as principal, where he oversees deal structuring and relationships with multiple portfolio companies. Prior to MVF, he worked for a number of startup technology companies, including Tesla, Zoox, and Clean Marine Energy. Powers was raised in rural Vermont and is an alumnus of Middlebury College (BA) and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth (MBA). In his spare time, he mentors entrepreneurs at SCOR

The Blue Flag will once again be flying this season at the Trent Port Marina in Quinte West.
This week the municipality announced that the marina is one of 10 in the county flying the flag.
The Blue Flag certification is an international award that recognizes an area that has the highest environmental, accessibility and sustainability standards.
“The Blue Flag program along with other environmental initiatives including the Great Lakes Cleanup Project and Boating Ontario’s Clean Marine program, is a key focus of our efforts to operate Trent Port Marina in an environmentally sustainable manner,” said Kathy Lammers, manager of marina and waterfront facilities.
Pallone said an oil spill off the Atlantic Coast would be devastating to coastal communities in New Jersey and up and down the Atlantic. Tourism season is here, the last thing we need is an oil spill, Pallone said.
According to figures that he provided, the Jersey Shore is home to over $700 billion in coastal properties, and the tourism industry generates almost half a million jobs, nearly 10% of New Jersey’s entire workforce. New Jersey’s commercial fishing industry generates over $7.9 billion annually, supporting over 50,000 jobs.
Department of Environmental Protection Acting Commissioner Shawn LaTourette, who attended the press conference held at the Asbury Park boardwalk, said the future is clean electric energy.
