Sutton superintendent gets good grades, except for one Lisa Redmond Millbury-Sutton Correspondent SUTTON Despite being embroiled in the daily chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic, School Superintendent Theodore Friend was generally rated as proficient, exemplary and meeting his goals, according to his annual performance review by the School Committee. The only critical comments at the June 7 meeting came from School Committee Chair Bruce Edwards, who admitted he and Friend did not always agree on when the students should have returned to in-person learning. Edwards explained that his ratings of Friend may seem “less than favorable,’’ but he said it is due to the format of the evaluation and not indicative of his work.

Sandy Quadros Bowles SUTTON A tentative fiscal year 2022 school budget that would increase by 5% over the current budget was presented Monday night, Jan. 4, by School Superintendent Theodore F. Friend to the Sutton School Committee. The total request of about $19.3 million is just over $900,000 higher than current spending. Salaries make up the bulk of the budget, at nearly $14,557,000, a hike of $524,000 from current salary spending. The increases reflect increases for teachers and administrators and the hiring of new positions. Those posts include one full-time adjustment counselor, 6.8 full-time equivalent instructional assistants, .5 full-time equivalent of a preschool teacher and one full-time equivalent of an IT support position.

School pupils send festive wishes to Dudley hospital patients

After the success of its Inpatient Christmas Card Appeal last year, The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust has been reaching out to schools across the borough, asking them to donate handwritten Christmas cards that will shared with patients having to spend Christmas at Russells Hall Hospital. Church of the Ascension Primary School, Sutton School, Pegasus Academy and Crestwood School and Sixth Form have all been getting involved, bringing the total number of donated cards to more than 1,000.

VCF awards grants to 64 nonprofits through its Spark program

Thu, 12/17/2020 - 4:13pm tim Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Community Foundation announced today that in partnership with many of its generous fundholders $169,711.94 in Spark Connecting Community grants has been awarded to 64 nonprofit organizations for local projects in communities across the state, including some nonprofits that serve residents in multiple counties. Of the total funding awarded, $77,950 was made possible by Giving Together, a program at the Community Foundation that shares grant proposals with fundholders and donors to give them the opportunity to co-fund projects. Spark Connecting Community is a competitive grant program at the Foundation that puts building and nurturing community front and center. The Community Foundation aims to support the work happening throughout Vermont’s 251 towns that builds social capital. These grants where a small amount can make a big difference are intended to light the spark that keeps Vermonters healthy and happy.
