The Nutcracker Continues This Week at the Alhambra

The first performance to take the stage at the historic Alhambra Theatre since March was a success Tuesday with the public able to watch ‘The Nutcracker’ through Friday. The classic Christmas story and ballet is presented by the Pennyroyal Arts Council and Brooke Bailey Dance Addiction. Auditions for the show were held earlier this year, and the production is choreographed by Stephanie Longo and Brooke Bailey Abner. Margaret Prim is the executive director of the Pennyroyal Arts Council and said Tuesday’s opening performance met everyone’s high expectations. click to download audioCOVID-19 restrictions throughout the year have limited programs the council can have at the Alhambra. Restrictions at entertainment venues were eased by the state earlier this week, although Prim says they still have to adhere to safety guidelines that include reduced attendance capacity.

Sisk Honda Donates to Alhambra Theatre

A Hopkinsville dealership donated to the Pennyroyal Arts Council to invest in equipment to allow the historic Alhambra Theatre to live-stream performances. Sisk Honda donated $15,000 to allow the venue, which has been temporarily closed or operated at a limited capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions, to offer another way to take in shows. The live-stream option makes the arts more accessible to community members, especially those who may not feel comfortable attending a performance in-person. Pennyroyal Arts Council Executive Director Margaret Prim said this changes their landscape and relevance. The first show that would’ve used the new equipment would have been Casey James. The show was also going to feature limited attendance but ended up being postponed due to restrictions from Governor Andy Beshear.

Local vendor Music Central assisted with the installation which included commercial grade cameras, digital console boards and broadcasting equipment.
