The Wolverines’ bats were shut down by Washington ace Gabbie Plain, who was the losing pitcher for the Huskies in Michigan’s 2-1 victory on Saturday night. Plain, from Australia and the 2021 Pac-12 Pitcher of the year, allowed just two hits both by Big Ten Player of the Year Lexie Blair over seven innings, with three walks and eight strikeouts. Sunday s win was Plain s 31st of the season.
Washington’s second run scored on a one-out double by Jadelyn Allchin, as Sarah Willis appeared to be tagged out at home by Michigan catcher Hannah Carson. But the referee ruled that Carson had obstructed Willis and awarded the run. Beaubien then finished the inning with a sac bunt by Sis Bates and a groundout by Baylee Klingler.

Gabbie Plain carried a perfect game bid into the fifth inning, finishing with a two-hitter as 16th-seeded Washington knocked off Portland State 3-0 in their first game at the NCAA Softball Seattle Regional.
It looked like UW might be off to a hot start early when Sis Bates singled and scored one out later when Morganne Flores hit a sharp grounder into past 2B Maddie Thompson that rolled all the way to the wall. But the Huskies weren’t able to muster all that much against PSU redshirt freshman Olivia Grey (8-7), who allowed just three runs (two earned) in six innings. It’s the fifth straight game that UW has scored four runs or fewer, which is a very bad omen as the Huskies head deeper into the postseason most likely, every game UW plays after Friday’s opener will be against top-20 opponents (or better).
