CALLER: How’s it going?
BRETT: Going well, thanks.
CALLER: Listen, I got a really good story for you. I’ve been listening to Rush since day one, and when he did his Rush to Excellence Tour
BRETT: Sure.
CALLER: in Southern California, me and my brother went to go see him, and it was great. I admired the guy from day one, and when it was over, I went up to try to talk to him, and I eventually got to talk to him. We shook hands, and I knew from listening to him that he was a fan of William F. Buckley.
A 32-year habit comes to an end

It was September of 1988 when I first started listening, which makes me a “lifer.”
It was at a riverfront park in Pekin and the voice I heard on an FM radio station from Morton was something new and different – a conservative.
For the next 32 years I would tune in to the Rush Limbaugh Show just about every weekday. Finally, someone was saying things I believed. Finally, there was another viewpoint being voiced than those of Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings.
In all the years I ve been listening, I have never written in this column that I was a regular listener to Rush Limbaugh. I was making enough enemies on my own with my newspaper columns without running off the folks who couldn t stand Rush. So I never mentioned it.

You know, we ve been trying to keep the faith in every way possible here with everything going on, and, you know, the part that really has bothered me the most has been the indecency of the left, the indecency of the modern Democrat Party and how they behave towards us, towards conservatives. I ve been trying to think through what s the source of this.
