Central and Simpson Go Toe-to-Toe in Softball Doubleheader

The Simpson Storm and Central Dutch’s softball teams will square off in an American Rivers Conference Doubleheader at the Simpson Softball Complex today. Simpson is coming into the doubleheader with a record of 7-11, including 5-7 in American Rivers Conference play. Simpson is coming off getting swept by Coe, giving up a total of 30 runs over three games, despite getting good offensive production. The Storm are currently 3-3 at home, with their three wins coming in a series sweep of Buena Vista. Central is coming into the doubleheader with a record of 6-5, including a 4-3 record in American Rivers Conference play. The Dutch just knocked off Coe Tuesday night with a 6-5 victory in eight innings. The second game was suspended due to darkness. Central is currently 3-2 on the road.

The American Rivers Conference champion Simpson Storm women’s basketball team earned several individual honors for their performance this season, with senior Jenna Taylor named the conference MVP, and head coach Brian Niemuth named coach of the year. Also named to the All-Conference 1st Team was senior Cameron Kincaid, and named to the All-Conference 2nd Team are junior Kia Rasmussen and sophomore Cassie Nash. The Storm were undefeated on the season, with a perfect 12-0 record overall going 8-0 in conference.

Simpson Softball Starts Season at Illinois College

After nearly two years without competition, the Simpson Storm softball team gets their season started today on the road against Illinois College in a doubleheader. The Storm were unable to get any game action before the season was shut down in 2020, and bring back a talented squad including top pitcher Emily Bell, outfielders Megan Crockett and Cam Leo, infielder Sara Trent, and approximately 30 freshman and sophomore athletes who are waiting to make their college debut. Action starts today at 1pm.
