NHRC notice to State on Ruia incident

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the State government, calling for a report in the recent incident at SVR Ruia Government General Hospital, in which 11 patients admitted for COVID-19 treatment died reportedly owing to oxygen shortage.
The commission’s directive was in response to a complaint filed by former Member of Parliament (Tirupati) Chinta Mohan and another one by Jestadi Sudhakar, All India Council of Human Rights Liberties and Social Justice, Guntur.
“The allegations, if true, raise serious issue of violation of human rights”, observed its Chairman Justice P.C. Pant, while calling for an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the State’s Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare).

Former Member of Parliament and a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC) P. Chinta Mohan has written to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), seeking a probe into the deaths at the SVR Ruia Government General Hospital in Tirupati allegedly due disruption in oxygen supply.
In a representation to NHRC’s acting Chairperson Justice Prafulla Chandra Pant, a copy of which was also marked to President Ram Nath Kovind, Mr. Chinta Mohan claimed that approximately 30 patients had died at the Ruia hospital due to short supply of oxygen and this was a violation of human rights. He also enclosed the complaints received from the families of the victims and urged the NHRC to register a case and investigate the matter.

Tirupati, May 12 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Opposition leaders on Wednesday slammed the state and central governments for hiding facts on Oxygen related deaths in Ruia hospital Tirupati and Modi Govt’s vaccine politics allegedly leading to spike in Covid deaths in the country.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary Dr K Narayana has charged the Andhra Pradesh government of hiding oxygen-related deaths at Ruia hospital and released a list of 23 Covid deaths gathered collected by his party cadres.
His list of 23 names of covid deaths from various locations of Chittoor district included Madanapalli, Punganur, Chittoor,Tirupati,Chandragiri, Renigunta and also Rajampeta in Kadapa district.

Tirupati: The ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party has won the Tirupati parliamentary seat with a comfortable margin of over 2.7 lakh votes over its nearest rival Telugu Desam Party.
The Tirupati seat fell vacant with the death of Balli Durga Prasad Rao, who succumbed to COVID-19.
