Shasta County flies in 100 vaccines for local firefighters
Shasta County Health and Human Services flew in 100 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine for local firefighters.

REDDING, Calif. - Shasta County Health and Human Services worked with multiple agencies to acquire 100 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine for local firefighters.
Shasta Health said the initial request for these vaccines was made by the U.S. Forestry.
Shasta County needed help filling this request in a timely manner, so California Highway Patrol volunteered their Air Operations Team to help deliver the vaccines. The vaccines were delivered early Tuesday morning.

Human case of West Nile Virus confirmed in Shasta County
Officials confirmed the first human case of West Nile Virus in Shasta County this season.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - An adult is the first person to test postive for the West Nile Virus in Shasta County this season, according to Shasta Health and Human Services and the Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control District.
The infected person is recovering at home.
West Nile Virus is almost always transmitted to people from the bite of an infected mosquito and cannot be passed through contact with other people or other animals, according to Shasta HHSA.

Some people are still hesitant to get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, even though a panel of experts gave it the green light. But others tell Action News Now, they re not concerned.

Both the FDA and CDC lifted the 11-day pause on the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
“There were some rare side effects experienced by a small number of people,” said Kerri Schuette with the Shasta Health & Human Services Agency.

Shasta County health leaders said the vaccine could arrive early as next week. It’s still unknown how many doses the county will be receiving.
Public Health said it’s still ironing out the distribution details. The Johnson & Johnson is a one-dose vaccine, which doesn’t need to be stored at extreme temperatures like the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines.
Redding Rodeo plans to return in May
Organizers are planning the return for the Redding Rodeo while they plan to start selling tickets in March.

REDDING, Calif. - The Redding Rodeo is making its comeback this year as organizers hope to bring people back in May, even if it’s at a limited capacity.
The Redding Rodeo Association is a non-profit group and relies heavily on sponsors and event-goers to keep it alive.
“There s a lot of people that are affected by it,” Bennett Gooch, the President of the Redding Rodeo Association, said. “We re a non-profit, so we reinvest everything back into the community. We start from scratch every year and that s what makes it a little bit more difficult.”
