The course includes classroom and in-water sessions and practical teaching experience, according to a press release.
Prerequisites for this course are:
⢠Must be 16 years of age at course completion.
⢠Must pass a swim skills evaluation (Level 4), which includes 25 meters front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, 15 meters butterfly, back float and tread water.
Completion of the course will allow graduates to teach the American Red Cross Learn to Swim levels 1-6, Parent and Child and Preschool Aquatics, Adult Swim levels 1-3 and a variety of water safety courses.
WSI certification is renewed by teaching and keeping current with the American Red Cross.
Among topics being addressed today at the Chaffee County Commissioners work session will be a review of the Great Outdoors Colorado funding for three new and improved trails in Buena Vistaâs River Park, a Salida Parks, Open-space and Trails discussion and a fire mitigation grant.
Sitting as the county board of social services, commissioners will hear a report from Department of Human Services on financial procedures and will review the February and March reports from the department.
Commissioners will also meet as the board of health and the landfill committee to hear reports.
Reports from the countyâs department of housing and the building department will also be heard.
Ark Valley High Rollers and Salida Parks and Recreation are starting a junior derby league for youth age 8 to 18 in Chaffee County and neighboring communities. All abilities are welcome.
The first practice session and for those who are interested in learning more is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Alpine Park.
Practices will be held at Alpine Park, weather permitting, until the High Rollers are able to get back in the fairgrounds.
âWe realize this date/time conflicts with Ladies Skate Club at Ramps and Alleys but thatâs just how it worked out,â Stacy Falk program director for Ark Valley High Rollers Quad Club and owner of Ramps and Alleys, wrote in an email. âWe will still offer the skate club of course but also encourage anyone from that crew to give derby a try too.â
